Role of the BOT

In partnership with the Principal and teaching staff, the Board of Trustees plays an important role in ensuring that educationally, all children at Waingaro School are provided with the opportunity to reach their full potential.

The responsibility of the Board is that of governance (control or authority) and an overview of management of the school. The Board is responsible for ensuring that legal obligations are met and that all resources (people, property or financial) are managed in compliance with relevant legislation and in the best interests of the school.

The Board of Trustees comprises five elected parent trustees, the Principal and a staff trustee. The elected parent trustees and staff representative usually serve a three year term.

The school’s charter and annual plan reflect specific needs and priorities. The Board sets strategic long term goals, develops and reviews policies, monitors performance of the Principal and staff and ensures high quality curriculum delivery. Daily management of the school is the responsibility of the Principal. The Board is not involved with the day to day management of school activities.
